If you already possess a three-year degree in Social Work, during the next academic year at Comillas you will be able to complete your training in the Diploma (three-year) degree to obtain the European Bachelor in Social Work degree in a format that has been conceived as compatible with your professional activities.
Social Work is an occupation increasingly in demand, which promotes betterment of people and communities, as well as contributing to face up to economic and social change and increasing well-being in societies (Council of Europe).
There is a long tradition of Social Work studies worldwide. Comillas University's Bachelor in Social Work, with a broad experience gained over 50 years training social workers, trains students to be able to engage in social work in various professional fields: social services, NGOs and organizations, homes for the elderly, children and teenagers, hospitals and health centers, primary and secondary schools, family courts, penitentiary institutions, development cooperation, and companies, among others.
The Bachelor in Social Work enables social workers to enhance their career and professional prospects by providing access to post-graduate studies - Master's and PhD level - and by being recognized in the countries within the European Higher Education Area.
We educate social workers qualified to foster personal strengths and resources among people, families, groups and communities in order to solve disputes, to create communication spaces for the improvement of relationships, to manage social services and benefits, to participate in the design of social policy and to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams. He/she will have research capacity in order to identify and thus respond to social needs and to be prepared and have the ability to review the work itself, searching for new perspectives and approaches in their work.
Therefore, we provide training that is characterized by the following:
- The quality of the internship placements, which will give you a thorough knowledge of your future profession from the outset of your Degree. Comillas is the only university in Madrid that offers you an internship as part of your training from the first year.
- Our work methodology includes learning activities at a wide range of internship centres, allowing you choose your professional specialisation according to your interests as well as personalised attention and monitoring. You will be assigned a social worker that will accompany and guide you throughout the development of your work in the internship centres and a supervising lecturer who will track your learning. You will participate in small work, focus and supervised internship groups (8-10 students) and will have individual tutorials with the supervising lecturers.
- Language training. We offer you a Diploma in Languages alongside the study of your Bachelor's Degree at no additional cost, since it is incorporated in the enrolment and monthly instalments. You will have classes with native lecturers for four hours per week. In the 3rd and 4th years, these classes will be adapted to the specific professional tasks of the social workers.
- You will have the opportunity of participating in an exchange programme with Universities abroad, which you have prepared for through your English classes and during this period, you can carry out your internship placement in other European, North and Latin American social intervention centres. The Faculty of Human and Social Sciences has exchange agreements with more than 60 overseas universities, with specific agreements for students of the Social Work Bachelor's Degree.
